Brent Green: Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then

New York, NY - Andrew Edlin Gallery is pleased to present Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then, a solo exhibition by artist/filmmaker Brent Green. The show's title is from Green's first feature length film which will be debuting at the IFC Center in New York on May 7, 2010. A concurrent solo show of other works and short films will take place at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (Berkeley, CA).
Gravity picks up on the paradox of life and death - a running motif in much of Green's work. The story centers around a bizarre house in Louisville, Kentucky owned by a hardware store clerk named Leonard Wood, who, in an effort to avoid thinking about his wife Mary's battle with cancer, built it room by room, hoping that his labor would somehow save her from the disease. Even after her death, Wood frantically worked himself over the next twenty years in an effort to bring something as powerful as his love for Mary into the world.
The gallery installation will feature the artist's version of Wood's house that will be transported from the film's set in rural Pennsylvania and re-constructed inside the main exhibition space. Video vignettes culled from the film will be screened and other sculptural pieces from the set will be displayed as well.
