One of Corcoran’s most highly-regarded pieces to date, Exoskeleton, has been widely exhibited and even featured on the cover of a Vermont weekly newspaper with statewide circulation. “ I consider this the best painting that I’ve done and it has also proved the most popular and well-liked piece out of my entire body of work.”
So why just give such an important work away? As a timely commentary on the nature of “value” in art. “After all a painting will not provide food, shelter or transportation, though Exoskeleton does seem to have entertainment value, which is something that I believe a successful piece of art must possess," continues Corcoran. "However, I became exhausted with attempting to put a monetary value on something where the value is, in my opinion, completely subjective. So instead of me selling a customer on my painting, the prospective recipient must sell themselves to me on why they would make a suitable owner.”
To enter for a chance to win Exoskeleton, email a pitch (be creative!) to corcorandavid@mac.com discussing why you deem your home most appropriate for the painting. Corcoran plans to review all applications, and announce the winner on October 1, 2009.
Exoskeleton will be exhibited throughout the streets of NYC during August and September. To follow it on Twitter and see updates of current location go to: twitter.com/dvdcorcoran
