41st Annual River Road Show

National Deadline: September 17, 2010 - You are cordially invited to enter the 41st Annual River Road Show. This is a national juried show sponsored by the Louisiana Art and Artists' Guild will be exhibited at the Louisiana State Archives Gallery in Baton Rouge, Dec 2, 2010-Jan 30, 2011.

ELIGIBILITY
The competition is open to all United States artists over the age of 18. Artwork must be original and created within the last two years. Photography and digitally-created or enhanced works are not acceptable. No nudes, gicles and/or reproductions are allowed. Artwork previously exhibited in the River Road Show is not eligible.

JUROR: PAUL JACKSON
Born in Lawrence Kansas, raised in Starkville Mississippi, Jackson began painting in college at Mississippi State University. In 1992 he received a Master's in Fine Art from the University of Missouri. Since then his artwork has received top honors in national and international competitions, and graced the covers of dozens of magazines and books.

Paul was honored by the American Watercolor Society with signature membership at the age of 30. He is also a Signature member of the National Watercolor Society.

Paul was the Grand Prize winner in the 'Paint Your Way to Paris' competition and has been featured as one of the Master Painters of the World in International Artists Magazine. In 2008, Jackson was the featured speaker at the International Watercolor Masters Invitational in Lushan , China , during the Olympic Games. In 2009 he served as the invited juror for the American Watercolor Society's 142nd annual international exhibition.

Jackson is the author of "Painting Spectacular Light Effects in Watercolor", from North Light Books. Many of Paul's works hangs in private collections, but you can see some examples on display in museums and public buildings.

A prolific artist with lots of spirit, Paul Jackson is one of America's greatest contemporary watercolorists. In all categories, landscapes, cityscapes, portraits, architectural, still life and the just plain wonderous, Paul puts genuine emotion, as well as artistic planning and finesse, into every painting.

RULES OF ENTRY

SUBMIT
  • CDs (Preferred). Clearly label CD and case with artist's name and first three titles of artwork with a Sharpie felt tip pen. Write titles 4-10 on a sheet enclosed with CD. Use no adhesive labels or tape. Image file name must match exactly the title of the painting as listed on the entry form. Use JPEG format with at least 1000 pixels on the longest side. Images must represent the painting exactly without extraneous background or framing. CDs will not be returned.

  • Slides, in a 2"x2" 35mm format, must be in plastic or cardboard mounts, with no glass or tape. If you wish your slides to be returned, please send a second self-addressed, stamped #10 envelope.

ENTRY FEES (non-refundable):
$40 for up to 3 entries and $5 for each additional submission, up to 10. Make check or money order payable to Louisiana Art and Artists' Guild.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ENTRY
Please enclose the following in your entry packet:
  • Completed Entry Form [download]
  • Correctly labeled CD and case or correctly labeled slides inserted into plastic slide protectors.
  • Self-addressed, stamped, #10 envelope for notification.
  • Second SASE for slides you want returned.
  • Check or money order for $40 entry fee plus $5 for each additional submission (payable to Louisiana Art and Artists' Guild)
  • Failure to follow instructions may void your entry.

* No accepted artworks may be withdrawn, returned or substituted during the exhibition.

NOTIFICATION
Notification of the juror's selection will be sent by October 22, 2009. Provide a self-addressed, stamped #10 envelope for acceptance notification.

SIZE & FRAMING OF ACCEPTED WORK
Accepted works on canvas or board must be framed unless painted on gallery-wrapped canvas. Entries must be appropriately framed and ready for hanging. This requires that no glass is used and screw eyes and wire are properly attached. Mats must be white or a light-colored neutral tone. The maximum framed size is 48" x 48". The artist's name and title of work should be clearly identified on the back of each painting. Non-compliance may void the entry.

DELIVERY OF ACCEPTED WORK
Accepted work may be hand-delivered or shipped prepaid by UPS, insured at the artist's expense.
  • Hand-delivered work will be received only on Wednesday, December 1, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Louisiana State Archives, 3851 Essen Lane, Baton Rouge, LA.
  • Shipped work must be securely packaged in a legibly addressed reusable box arriving no later than Friday, November 19. Shipping charges (both directions) are to be arranged by the artist. A handling fee of $20 is assessed on all shipped works. Detailed instructions will accompany letters of acceptance.
SALES
Exhibited artwork will be labeled with the selling price or NFS (not for sale). No commission is charged for sales. Works sold will be given to the purchaser at the completion of the exhibition.

RETURN OF WORK
Hand-delivered work should be picked up on Monday, January 31, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Shipped works will be returned via prepaid UPS using the artist-provided durable, reusable box. Written shipping instructions and prepayment of return shipping costs are required.

LIABILITY
The Louisiana State Archives, its employees, LAAG, and/or any of its members, will not be held responsible for any loss or damage to artwork. Insurance should be purchased by the individual artist.
