International Deadline: June 1, 2008 - The Fitton Center for Creative Arts, a non-profit educational art center in southwest Ohio, seeks exhibition proposals for its 2009-2010 season.

The Galleries:
Our galleries, which one Cincinnati magazine described as “Greater Cincinnati’s most beautiful gallery space”, have hardwood floors, gray fabric and painted walls, wood grid ceilings, and contemporary museum track lighting. The Anne Ruder Bever Galleries, consisting of two enclosed galleries, a reception lobby gallery, and a corridor gallery on the second floor, may function as one large exhibition space or contain two to four concurrent shows. The first floor Lobby Gallery features area artists, traveling shows, or exhibitions of community interest. A Student Gallery on the first floor is used to celebrate the results of Fitton Center classes, artwork made in area schools or community projects.

Calendar and Selection Process:
Exhibitions in Anne Ruder Bever and Lobby Galleries are generally scheduled 12 to 18 months, or more, in advance. Proposals are selected on the basis of quality of the work and how it contributes to the diversity of style, media and content for the season.

Selections are made by an exhibitions selection committee of experienced artists and others with knowledge and enthusiasm for the visual arts and the community. When appropriate, the work of two or more artists may be combined. Artists may submit group proposals or suggest artists whose work could be compatible for joint exhibitions. However, each artist will be reviewed individually by the committee. Deadline for entry for Anne Ruder Bever and Lobby Galleries is June 1, 2008 with selected proposals being scheduled summer 2009 – 2010 or beyond.

Proposal:
To propose an exhibition, please provide the following by June 1, 2008:

  • Exhibition Proposal Form (download): this required form completed and signed.
  • Artist Statement: describing your proposed series of artwork and/or your artwork in general.
  • Curriculum Vitae: or description of exhibition experience.
  • JPEGs on disk: 10 to 20 professional quality images of a consistent body of artwork in JPEG digital format on a disk. JPEGS must be compatible with PC software, at least 300 dpi and no larger than 1MB apiece. Do not send proposals through email as they will crash our email accounts. Do not imbed captions including your name in JPEGS. You will remain anonymous to the judges.
  • Slide List: Please submit this in the form of a page or two of thumbnails of your JPEG images with each artwork image labeled with title, media and dimensions.
  • SASE: for notification of committee decision and for return of disk and materials. Materials will not be returned if an appropriately sized and stamped envelope is not included. If accepted, disks will be kept on file to be used for promotion of the exhibition.

Fees:
No entry or Application fee. The Fitton Center retains a 30% sales commission.

Submit Application with required materials to:

Cathy Mayhugh
Fitton Center for Creative Arts
101 South Monument Ave
Hamilton OH 45011

Notification: We will make every effort to notify artists by mail by October 1, 2008.

Note: The exhibitions committee makes the decision as to the appropriateness of all works, and reserves the right to refuse work that differs substantially from that proposed. All work is insured to a reasonable extent while on the Fitton Center premises. We cannot be responsible for artwork while in transit. Delivery and/or shipment of artwork and subsequent costs are the responsibility of the artist.
