ArtDeadline.Com Call for Entries: Second Street Gallery '09-10 Season

International Deadline: November 10, December 3, 2008 - Founded in 1973, Second Street Gallery is a nonprofit contemporary art space committed to presenting the best of new art to the Central Virginia community and to fostering an appreciation for contemporary art through educational programs.

Exhibitions are solo, group or thematic in orientation, and represent regional and national artists of both emerging and established levels.

Exhibition Review Procedure
The Artist Review Panel consists of 8-10 local artists and arts professionals representing the cultural community of the Charlottesville/Albemarle region, including nationally recognized art historians and critics. Review sessions are anonymous: images are projected, artist statements are read, and recommendations are made to SSG's Director who curates the exhibition season, considering both programming needs and budgetary issues.

Submitting Exhibition Proposals
Second Street Gallery will accept proposals from any artist who has not had a solo exhibition at SSG within the preceding four years. Works to be reviewed must have been completed within the last five years. Artists must submit the following for consideration:

10 slides maximum* (in a slide sheet), individually labeled with name, title, and orientation for proper viewing. Do not submit original slides. SSG makes every effort to return slides, but will not be responsible for damage or loss. Mac CD PowerPoint presentation (not PowerPoint show) is also acceptable.
A typed list of slides/images submitted with title, year, medium, and dimensions of each work. This applies to disk applicants as well.
A current resume, including address, phone number, exhibitions, etc.
A brief artist statement not to exceed a single typed page, double-spaced
A SASE (self-addressed, stamped envelope with adequate postage and packaging for return of your slides)
A $15 check (processing fee) made out to Second Street Gallery

*a CD is acceptable as long as images are clearly labeled with name and title. Images MUST be in Powerpoint presentation format for Mac, not a Powerpoint show. Please note the 10 image maximum still applies.

Please do not submit extraneous materials, as the panel will not be able to view them.

Schedule of Exhibition Review Sessions:
Artists may submit proposals to one of the three review sessions listed below. Exhibition proposals must be complete and postmarked or hand-delivered as indicated.

Postmark deadline: 11/10/08 12/3/08
Hand-deliver deadline: 11/14/08 12/8/08

Notification
Applicants will be notified within 12 weeks of review date. Final decisions will be made by May 2009.
