International Deadline: March 5, 2010 - 12 12 GALLERY announces an open call to all women artists working with any photographic process to submit entries for its Women’s International Juried Photography Exhibition 2010. The exhibition judge and selector, Margaret Salisbury, Fellow, The Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain, Bath England, will award up to $1000 in cash prizes. This exhibition will coincide with a state-wide effort to recognize women artists – MINDS WIDE OPEN: Virginia Celebrates Women in the Arts.

Although the project is limited to exhibitions and events in the Commonwealth of Virginia, participating artists may be working in any part of the world.

Eligibility
Women photographers age 18+, working in any photographic process, may submit up to 3 images. Additional images may be submitted at additional cost for up to a total of 5 works. Work previously exhibited at 12 12 Gallery is not eligible. Only 2-D work is eligible and must be limited to a maximum framed size of 24” wide.

Awards
Cash prizes up to $1000 will be awarded solely at the discretion of the exhibition juror. Recognition of work by Mrs. Salisbury may also be designated to the extent she deems appropriate. These designations may not include a cash prize. Additionally, Mrs. Salisbury will I make a brief comment on each of the 50 works selected for the exhibition.

Jury Process
To assure the finest quality exhibition, the work will be selected based on a dual review process. Digital images will be reviewed by exhibition judge and selector, Margaret Salisbury, FRPS. Actual prints will be reviewed by gallery director, Martin McFadden, LRPS.

The exhibition of approximately fifty (50) works will pass both reviewers standards.

Juror
Margaret Salisbury, FRPS, MFIAP, FIPF, APAGB has been a committed photographer for 35 years. She gained two Fellowships of the Royal Photographic Society in 1979. Margaret gained the EFIAP in 1983 and the APAGB (Meritorious Service Award) in 1986. She was awarded the Fenton Medal and Honorary Membership of the RPS in 2006 and is also a member of the SWPP (SITTP and SINWP) and the DPS (Disabled Photographers Society).

Margaret is a Member of the London Salon of Photography, where she is the first and only woman in nearly 100 years to hold the post of Chairman, which she served from 1997-2001.

She has been a Judge and Selector for international, open, national, federation, group and club exhibitions in UK and abroad, having commented on accepted images at exhibition openings, judge and selector prints, projected images, in person and “on line” competitions and exhibitions. She judged the “Gibraltar Photographic Exhibition” in 2005 and 2009, in person and has been a PAGB approved judge since early 1980.

Mrs. Salisbury has been an Assessor for 20 years on the LRPS panel, during which she held the position of Chairman and Team Leader. Margaret is currently Chairman of the Distinction Panel for Licentiate, Associate and Fellowship of the Disabled Photographers Society and is believed to have helped, on a “one-to-one” basis over a thousand photographers gain their distinctions.

Entry Procedure
Entrants are asked to submit digital images on CD AND corresponding preview prints. Slides may be submitted for an additional fee of $2.50 (US) per slide, since a digital image is required for the juror to review. Only one image may be submitted for each work.

Preparing Digital Files: Composition and artistic merit will be evaluated by high resolution digital images. Generate a digital file of each image at a resolution of 300 ppi, with the longest dimension being 1900 pixels.

Save the file in JPG format, at the maximum quality level, where the final image size is no larger than 2MB. Label each file with the last name, first initial, and the number corresponding to the entry number (e.g. SmithJ1).

Please identify images on the entry form with the title of the work.

Preparing Preview Prints
Print quality will be evaluated by preview prints that may range in size (in inches) from 8X10 to 12X16. Only prints smaller than 8X10 may be submitted if they are the actual size of the work.

Furthermore, if the preview print is the actual size of the work to be presented and is selected for the exhibition, the artist may elect to send the specified framing for the print, instead of sending another print. 12 12 Gallery will then mat and frame the selected work with the framing provided by the artist. 12 12 Gallery can produce preview prints from submitted digital files. Contact the gallery for pricing; charges should be added to the entry fee.
