U.S. National Deadline: Bi-annual Recurring September 15, April 15 – Funding from the Elizabeth Firestone Graham Foundation is currently available to support direct costs for catalogues and other publications accompanying contemporary art exhibitions and projects, especially those supporting emerging and under-recognized artists, and produced by organizations outside the nation’s cultural centers. Limited funds are also available for publications related to the grantee organization and its programs or collections.
The Foundation does not provide grants for individuals, general operating expenses, capital campaigns, endowment funds, or projects solely featuring the work of deceased artists. One-time special projects that are originated by the applying organization are preferred. To be considered, project dates must fall within one year of the funding cycle in which the organization is requesting funds. The Foundation is unlikely to provide grants exceeding one third of the proposed publication budget. Grant amounts typically range from $5,000 to $15,000. Proposals are reviewed by the Trustees semi-annually in the spring and fall.
LETTERS OF INQUIRY
Letters of inquiry are required before submission of a full proposal. Letters are accepted throughout the year for preliminary review by the grants committee, but must be postmarked by March 1 for the spring funding cycle and by August 1 for the fall funding cycle. Letters will be accepted via USPS first class/ priority mail, or email only. If the request is recommended for further consideration, the applicant will be invited to submit a full proposal for the spring deadline of April 15, or the fall deadline of September 15.
Letters of inquiry should be no more than one page and include:
- Official name of the applicant organization
- Name, phone number and email address of contact person
- Dates during which the project will take place
- Confirmation of the organization’s current tax-exempt status with the IRS
- Specific grant amount requested
- The total budget for the publication
- A brief description of the project
Please do not include any other materials at this stage of the request.
