Grants Barbara Deming Memorial Fund: Money for Women
International Deadline: January 31, 2018 – The Fund makes awards ($500-1,500) twice a year to individual feminist women in the arts whose work focuses upon women. Citizens of the United States and Canada with primary residence in these countries are eligible to apply.
Small artist support grants ($500 – 1500) to individual feminist women in the arts whose work in some way focuses on women.
WE ARE INTERESTED IN
We are interested in funding projects which you have begun or which are well underway and for which you have work to show. We request that the majority of your submitted materials be related to and part of this project. (see the Award Notes for examples of recently funded projects) Please take time to read the guidelines and application form carefully. You will be notified about the grant decision approximately five months after the deadline date.
WE DO NOT AWARD
Theater, playscripts, videos, work which is or will be self-published. We do not give loans or provide money for educational assistance, work on dissertations or research (except research to be used in writing a book). We do not provide funds for the cost of editing services, business projects, or emergency money for people in need. We rarely give money to groups. Those who have applied for a grant previously must wait two years before reapplying to the fund. Former grantees must wait five years before reapplying.
MATERIALS FOR YOUR APPLICATION
To Apply you will need:
Writers: Project description (max 400 words), a budget (as attachment), a 100-word description explaining why you are applying to a feminist fund, a resume (max 2 pages, as attachment), and up to 20 pages of writing.
Mixed Genre (graphic and visual art with text): all of the above and up to 20 pages of text & illustration in .jpg format
Visual Artists: Project description (max 400 words), a budget (as attachment), a 100-word description explaining why you are applying to a feminist fund, a resume (max 2 pages, as attachment), and 4 work samples in .jpg format, labeled as to title, size, medium, date.
CURRENT DEADLINE (you may apply in only one genre)

Barbara Deming (1917-1984) was a feminist, lesbian, poet, writer and nonviolent activist in the civil rights, anti-war and women’s movements. She founded the Money for Women Fund in 1975 to give financial and moral support to creative women.
Money for Women is the oldest ongoing feminist granting agency.
