Public Art RFP Huntington University’ Public Art Commission
U.S. National Deadline: January 17, 2017 – Huntington University, Huntington Indiana is sponsoring a call for public art designed for the inner lobby wall of the Merillat Centre for the Arts (MCA) located on the Huntington University campus. This vibrant art space is host to myriad campus and community based activities that see events year round.
The Merillat Centre for the Arts (MCA) is a bustling center for the arts – housing the Robert E. Wilson Gallery, the Zurcher Auditorium as well as the Department of Visual Arts, Theater, Music and Digital Media Arts – and serves as a hub for regional art, performance, music and other public events.
The MCA’s architectural design affords a large, open lobby with a large wall space on its east side. This inner façade is brick covered and measures 35’ wide x 10’ high. The façade offers the artist an exceptional space for the creation of art that reflects the life, vitality and spirit of Huntington University’s Merillat Centre for the Arts.

This call is the first phase of the Application Process. Submissions will be judged on their use of space, material, color, scale, proportion and other aesthetics, as well as, their ability to creatively and accurately convey the artistic life that resides within the Merillat Centre for the Arts.
Applications must have:
- letter of interest
- artist Resume or CV
- three to five examples of work. All applications must be in a single, small file PDF format.

STIPENDS AND BUDGET
$500 will be awarded to three selected applicants to develop two concept proposals.
An all-inclusive award of $8,500.00 will be awarded to execute one of the concepts if approved. The award includes artist fees, and all costs associated with the engineering and fabrication of the art work, delivery and installation.
In phase two, finalists will submit a proposal containing;
- a written description detailing their art
- a set of finished drawings depicting the art
- a production timeline
- a budget
- a material list.
