Opportunity Description

International Deadline: Ongoing – The Portico Library is a historic library and reading room in the centre of Manchester, UK. Opened in 1806, its public gallery complements the 200-year-old collection and hosts a changing programme of contemporary art exhibitions.

The Portico Library welcomes submissions to exhibit and encourages regional and international artists at all career stages to develop proposals for this unique city-centre gallery.

As a non-profit venue, The Portico requires exhibitors to cover some costs (details of which are available on enquiry) but offers free staffing and invigilation six days a week for the duration of all shows, extensive promotion and a stunning setting in the heart of one of the UK’s leading cultural centres. Revenue generated from our exhibitions is shared directly between artists and the library’s vital restoration and conservation programme.

We welcome proposals for research and residency projects from local and international artists at all career stages. Our priority is to form innovative collaborations that bring the collection’s highlights and history to new audiences while supporting artists’ creative and career development.
