Competitions VAA 34th Juried Open Exhibition
U.S. National Deadline: March 26, 2017 – The Visual Arts Alliance’ announces an open call for entries for its upcoming 34th Juried Exhibition, on display May 1, 2017 thru June 3, 2017. This juried exhibition is open to all artists aged 18 and over.
Artwork may be created from any media, in both 2-D and 3-D with the exception of video works. Work must not have been previously included in a VAA exhibit. 2-D works must be suitably framed or edge-finished and may not be larger than 84″ (including frame). Works must be framed and appropriately wired.
AWARDS, CATALOG, CD
More than $3,000 in cash will be awarded. First place award will be $1,200; second place, $1,000; third place $800; and 3 Honorable Mentions. An exhibition catalog will be produced; to see the most recent catalog here.
All submitted artworks will be included in a custom-designed CD which is hand-delivered to about 50 Houston-area galleries and art consultants. You may buy a copy of the CD for yourself .
Rachel Cook is Curator at DiverseWorks in Houston. Her curatorial work reconsiders the relationship between images and objects, and investigates methods of delegation embedded within performative and participatory work. Her writing has appeared in a number of art journals and catalogues, including Modern Painters, Flash Art, and the upcoming Prospect 3 catalogue. She is currently the Guest Editor of Art Lies for Gulf Coast, a journal of literature and fine arts. See more bio here.
The entry fee is $50 for VAA members and $60 for non-members – for up to 4 entries.
DELIVERY OF ACCEPTED WORKS
Artists work that is accepted will receive shipping instructions in their notification of acceptance.
VAA does not require a commission on sales of this exhibition.
- March 26, 11:59pm: Submission deadline (this will NOT be extended)
- April 13: Notifications begin
- April 30, 9-10am: Art dropoff for local artists & installation
- May 10, 6-8pm: Opening reception. Awards presented at 7pm
- May 13, 2pm: artist talks
- May 20, 2pm: artist talks
- June 4, 10am-11am: Deinstallation

Visual Arts Alliance (VAA) is an educational organization for serious practitioners of the visual arts and interested members of the general public. Founded in Houston, TX in 1981, VAA is an all volunteer-run, 501(c)3, non-profit organization.
VAA produces professionally juried art exhibitions providing opportunities for members and non-members to have their work professionally judged and viewed by the general public. VAA also organizes educational programs including studio, gallery and museum tours in addition to presentations of art-related resources. Recreational programs provide creative and supportive events beneficial to artists.
