Competitions Unreal Photo: Staged, Fantasy &Fictitious Photography Exhibition
NOTE: This opp listing has expired and may no longer be relevant!
International Deadline: July 29, 2018 – This month 1650 Gallery welcomes photographic flights of fancy with the exhibition UNREAL: Staged, Fantasy and Fictitious Photography. Approximately fifty works will be chosen from submitted photos to be included in the group exhibition in Los Angeles.
Call it what you will, but we like to lump it all under the banner of “constructed imagery”– which means if you can dream it, we want to see it! With it’s roots in 20th Century Pictorialism (itself a construct of Alfred Steiglitz!), the contemporary constructed photograph is coming on strong in the 21st Century. Whether digitally created in Photoshop or shot “in-camera” on physical sets, constructed imagery strives to tell the stories that candid photography cannot. Current masters of the genre include Philip Di Lorca Corcia, Cindy Sherman, Gregory Crewdson, Sandy Skoglund and Jeff Wall. Is fiction stranger than truth after all? This time at 1650, the answer lies with you!
Open to photographers worldwide of all skill levels.
Best In Show, 2nd Place and 3rd Place will be awarded and posted online after the show opening. Award winning photos will be featured on the show page and Best In Show winners will have a small portfolio of their work (up to 10 images) featured in our 1650 Spotlight gallery of photographic excellence.
All Awards winners will also be featured in our 1650 Gallery newsletter, which is broadcast via email to our mailing list. Getting the word out about artists we’re excited about helps you do more great work, helps us show more great work, and helps keep the often insular world of fine art photography more diverse and vibrant.
There is an entry fee of $40 for up to 5 images.. Additional entries may be submitted for $5 each.
Selected photographs will be posted on the website within one week after the deadline, along with instructions for submitting work for exhibition. An email will also be sent out when the collection is posted.
Selected artists may choose to offer their work for sale. The gallery retains 50% of the sale price.
Photographs have the opportunity to be part of an online silent charity auction to benefit worthy causes. 1650 encourages all accepted artists to participate but it is not mandatory. We will provide additional info to accepted artists who fall into this category.
