U.S. National Deadline: January 15, 2018 – The Dedalus Foundation Master of Fine Arts Fellowship in Painting and Sculpture is awarded annually to final-year students who are graduating from an M.F.A. degree program in the United States. Each fellowship carries a stipend of $25,000 and the use of free studio space for the fellowship year.
Candidacy for the fellowship is by nomination only. Each fall, department chairpersons from M.F.A. programs in painting and sculpture are invited to submit nominations. Each institution may nominate two candidates. Nominees should be graduating in the spring semester that directly follows the fall nominating cycle. Nominees need not be U.S. citizens.
Once nominations are submitted to the Foundation, nominees will receive application guidelines from us via e-mail. Nominees are asked to submit JPGs of eight work samples, a description of the work, and a biographical statement.
The Deadline for applications and letters of reference is January 15, 5 p.m. EST. We accept nominations beginning October 1. Deadlines that fall on a weekend or holiday will be extended to the next business day.
A committee of distinguished artists, curators and critics determine the fellowship.

Founded in 1981 by the artist Robert Motherwell (1915–1991), the Dedalus Foundation fosters public understanding of modern art and modernism through its programs in arts education, research and publications, archives and conservation, and exhibitions, as well as in the guardianship and study of Robert Motherwell’s art. As we work to inform and educate the public, we strive to maintain the high standards of our founder, who in addition to being a great artist was also active as a writer, lecturer, and teacher.
