Competitions Homage: An International Call for Works Honoring Another Artist
International Deadline: September 30, 2020 – The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists to submit works that were created to honor another artist. Submissions can range from the most traditional to the most conceptual, abstract, or experimental of any media.
Whether it is intended as an homage to a deeply respected fellow artist, or simply a work representing a direct influence by the other’s artwork, artists often pay a form of homage to their historical mentors in the things they make. We wonder how this shows up in artwork of today—how historical influences and bonds of aesthetic and intellectual lines of thought are integrated into creative production and expression. With this exhibit Manifest invites artists to share their works that represent such tributes to their inspirational predecessors, kindred spirits, and creative pathfinders.
ELIGIBILITY & MEDIA
HOMAGE is open to everyone. The only limitation is that entries must represent original works which address the broad theme described above. Submitting specific works shown previously in Manifest’s physical gallery exhibits is discouraged.
Open to any and all traditional and non-traditional visual arts media.
JURY & CURATOR
Manifest’s carefully assembled juries of professional and academic advisors change from project to project, and have no collective predisposition towards any particular kind or style of art.
Manifest Press will produce a high quality hard-cover publication documenting each entire season of exhibits, artists, and works shown. This continues Manifest’s commitment to long-term documentation and dissemination of our projects, and the expansion of physical exhibits into a broader geography and time frame, while also bringing all exhibits together under one cover each year to create a better product which will be more valuable to the public, teachers, libraries, and exhibiting artists.
AWARDS & CASH PRIZES
The annual Manifest Grand Jury Prize will result in the awarding of one significant cash prize ($2500) to a single work selected as the ‘best of the entire season’. Winner will be determined by a final end-of-year jury from among a pool of all top-scoring works from each exhibit’s jury process across the current exhibition season… see more
$40 for up to FOUR entries submitted, $5 per each additional entry. Number of works is not limited.
Visit Manifest Gallery online to Apply.
SALE OF ARTWORK
All work, unless indicated as not for sale (NFS), will be available for sale during exhibit. Manifest Gallery will retain a commission of 30% on all artwork sold during the exhibition.
