Competitions Peripheral: An International Call for Works About Edges and Boundaries
International Deadline: November 19, 2019 – The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists to submit works which in some way address or reflect the theme of PERIPHERAL.
Limitations inspire creativity. Edges—the periphery of awareness, skill, media use, capabilities, and concepts—form the mold that creative trailblazers attempt to define, expand, and break free of. In turn new edges are created, new limitations defined. We are curious how artists consider the concepts of boundaries, edges, or the ‘peripheral’ as it relates to their creative practice and the subject, content, or form of their work.
Artists are encouraged to take a broadly creative view in interpreting the theme as it applies to their work. Submissions can range from the most traditional realism to the most conceptual, abstract, or experimental.
PERIPHERAL is open to everyone. The only limitation is that entries must represent original works which address the broad theme described above. Submitting works shown previously in Manifest’s physical gallery exhibits is discouraged. Our multi-member juries embrace surprise, creative solutions, and most of all exceptionally well put together visual art. The bottom line is the work should address the general theme discussed above in some way, even if subtle and understated.
Open to any and all traditional and non-traditional visual arts media.
The annual Manifest Grand Jury Prize will result in the awarding of one significant cash prize ($2500) to a single work selected as the ‘best of the entire season’.
JURY & CURATOR
This exhibit will be juried by an anonymous several member volunteer panel of professional artists and academic advisors with a broad range of expertise relative to art and design. The jury will then pass along their recommendations to the exhibit curator who will design the exhibit from the jury-approved pool.
Manifest Press will produce a high quality hard-cover publication documenting each entire season of exhibits, artists, and works shown. This continues Manifest’s commitment to long-term documentation and dissemination of our projects, and the expansion of physical exhibits into a broader geography and time frame, while also bringing all exhibits together under one cover each year to create a better product which will be more valuable to the public, teachers, libraries, and exhibiting artists.
$40 for up to four entries submitted. $5 per each additional entry. Fees are non-refundable. Number of entries is unlimited.
