Competitions ARCHIVE [photo]
International Deadline: August 5, 2018 – Manifest Creative Research Gallery’s exhibition ‘ARCHIVE [photo]’, invites artists to consider the meaning of the concepts ‘primary source, preservation, collective data, accumulation, time, history, reflection, and so on,’ as they consider the wide variability of potential for works fitting into or addressing the overarching theme. These may be in ways that are quite straightforward, or which are abstract, fragmented, or in other ways surprising or significantly interpreted.
This exhibition will bring together works of photographic and lens-based visual art which in one way or another, literally, formally, or figuratively, represents the concept of archive. It will provide, through its concurrent presentation with other exhibitions, a comparison between photo and non-photo approaches, and inspire consideration of the role of visual art in the process of housing, presenting, and preserving primary source information, and of the artist’s part in the process of interpreting or feeding into the archive.
We are eager to see just how artists make work in any photo or lens-based media or genre which in some way addresses the theme of ARCHIVE.
ARCHIVE [photo] is open to everyone. The only limitation is that entries must represent original works made using the photographic or lens-based process which also address the broad theme as defined by the concept of ‘archive’.
The sister-exhibition to this project, ARCHIVES, is open to submission of any non-photo works addressing the same theme. Learn about that exhibition here.
Open to any and all traditional and non-traditional photographic or lens-based visual arts media. Including potentially boundary-testing forms.

JURY & CURATOR
Manifest’s selection process involves a complex two-part system. This exhibit will be juried by an anonymous 5-9 member panel of professional and academic advisors with a broad range of expertise relative to art and design. The jury will then pass along their recommendations to the exhibit curator who will make the final selections from the jury-approved pool.
Manifest Press will produce a high quality hard-cover publication documenting each entire season of exhibits, artists, and works shown. This continues Manifest’s commitment to long-term documentation and dissemination of our projects, and the expansion of physical exhibits into a broader geography and time frame, while also bringing all exhibits together under one cover each year to create a better product which will be more valuable to the public, teachers, libraries, and exhibiting artists.
$40 for up to three entries submitted. $10 per each additional entry. Fees are non-refundable. Number of entries is unlimited.
Visit Manifest Gallery online to Apply. The online submission is required.
