Opportunity Description

U.S. National Deadline: August 15, 2018 – Help the North Sound Youth Symphony celebrate its upcoming 25th Anniversary Season in 2018-2019 by designing new artwork to be used on our brochures, concert programs, posters and website.

North Sound Youth Symphony has been making beautiful music for 25 years. Help us celebrate our upcoming 25th Anniversary Season in 2018-2019 by designing new artwork to harmonize with the wonderful music being made by our young musicians. The winning artwork will provide the new look for our printed and online media.
North Sound Youth Symphony, in cooperation with Western Washington University Department of Music, is based in Bellingham, WA. We serve young musicians, ages 9 to 22, from Bellingham, Blaine, Ferndale, Lynden, Mount Baker area and Whatcom County in general.

Northwest Washington is fortunate to have vibrant public school music programs offering band and string orchestra classes. The purpose of North Sound Youth Symphony is to foster and promote music education for young people in Northwest Washington. NSYS aims to complement and support the school music programs with an opportunity for band and orchestra musicians to combine in a symphonic experience that includes string instruments, woodwinds, brass and percussion. NSYS offers two performance levels: Philharmonia for intermediate level players and Symphony for more advanced musicians.

NSYS has a rich history of developing young musicians. We are searching for a new look for the artwork that graces our brochures, concert programs, posters and website. Some ideas the art could reflect are: a recognition of our symphonic heritage, a celebration of our young musicians and an acknowledgement of our beautiful local region.

Contest winner will receive a $100 prize. The winning artwork, with artist acknowledgement, will be displayed on our brochures, concert programs, posters, website and Facebook page into the future. Submissions selected for honorable mention will be displayed on our website and concert programs for the 2018-2019 season. Blind judging will be done by NSYS board members.

Two-dimensional media only, including painting, drawing, printmaking, pastel and mixed media. Send jpeg file to the NSYS intern, Mairin McCurdy at mccurdm3@wwu.edu for judging. If your work is selected for use, we will need access to a high-quality digital image.

  • Please provide your full name.
