Public Art RFP RFQ: William Lanson Memorial

U.S. National Deadline: January 15, 2020 – The City of New Haven, Connecticut, via the New Haven City Plan Department and the Amistad Committee, Inc., invites artists to apply to create designs for a William Lanson monument for the proposed William Lanson Memorial Plaza along the Farmington Canal Trail.
The William Lanson Memorial Plaza aims to honor the life and accomplishments of William Lanson (1776-1851), a former slave and one of the earliest black entrepreneurs in Connecticut. Lanson’s significant contributions to the City of New Haven include, but are not limited to, the development an extended harbor at Long Wharf, the construction of a retaining wall for the harbor basin of the Farmington Canal, and cofounding the Temple Street Church, known today as the Dixwell United Church of Christ.
