Opportunity Description

International Deadline: February 29, 2020 – The Visual Art Open [VAO] is a Not for Profit event and is administered by a panel of experienced accredited independent art experts.

The aim is to give UK and International visual artists the ultimate platform to develop their passion and career in the arts sector. The awards permit artists to build sustained and strategic partnerships with art galleries and creative practitioners. Finalists will benefit from exhibiting, selling and showcasing their work to art critics and art buyers alike.

ELIGIBILITY
The competition is open to both amateur and professional artists, working in one or more of the following media:

  • Painting & Mixed Media & Printmaking
  • Illustration & Drawing
  • Sculpture
  • Photography / Digital Art
  • Young Artist (16 – 24 years old)
  • Children’s Award (15 years and under)

All work submitted must be solely produced by the artists registered for this award and must have been completed in the last three years. Artists must be 18+ years old. The VAO has no maximum age limit.

AWARDS
The overall winner of the VAO will be awarded:

  • A Cash prize of £1,000.00 to support the production of new works.
  • Commercial mentoring package.
  • Stand space Chester Arts Fair 2021 worth £1,000.

£250.00 will be awarded for each winning category

JUDGING CRITERIA
All works are judged by the VAO panel anonymously, basing all work on the details provided in the application form including the materials used.  The Criteria judged includes:

  • Quality of the piece of art produced / technical standard
  • Quality of the final presentation
  • Artist Potential
  • Interesting Content

ENTRY FEE
Artists are only permitted to enter 5 artworks into the competition at a cost of £15 each, totaling a maximum of £75. Young Artists under the age of 24 pay £10 per artwork entry, totaling a maximum of £50 for 5 artworks entered.
