Compete Visual Arts Alliance 37th Juried Open Exhibition
U.S. National Deadline: July 20, 2021 – The Visual Arts Alliance announces an artist call to enter its upcoming 37th Juried Open Exhibition. VAA welcomes Henry Cooper, PhD, Senior Curator and Head of Modern Art at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC as the juror for the Exhibition, on view August 25-September 26, 2021.
This exhibition is open to U.S. artist, aged 18 and over. Artwork may be created from any media, in both 2-D and 3-D. Video works are not accepted. The maximum size of work is 100″, including frame, if applicable.
Harry Cooper is senior curator and head of modern art at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. Since joining the Gallery in February 2008, he has organized exhibitions including The Robert and Jane Meyerhoff Collection: Selected Works (2009–2010), Stuart Davis: In Full Swing (2016–2017), and Oliver Lee Jackson: Recent Paintings (2019). Cooper also initiated the In the Tower series of focus exhibitions on such artists as Philip Guston, Mark Rothko, and Nam June Paik, and led the reinstallation of the East Building galleries for their reopening in September of 2016.
Cooper received a PhD in 1997 from Harvard University, an MA in 1992 from Johns Hopkins University, and an AB in American history and literature in 1981 from Harvard University. Cooper also holds a certificate in drawing and painting from the Corcoran Museum School of Art, Washington, DC… see more

A maximum of four (4) entries may be submitted. Work must not have been previously included in a VAA exhibit.
Those accepted will be notified by phone call followed by email. Those that are not accepted will be notified by email.
VAA does not require a commission on sales of this exhibition. Sales are handled directly by the artist.
- July 20 (Tuesday), 11:59pm: Submission deadline (this will NOT be extended)
- August 11 (Wednesday): Notifications begin
- August 25 (Wednesday), 6-8pm: Opening reception via Zoom. Awards presented at 7pm. The exhibit will go live at 6:00 on www.exhibbit.com
- September 26 (Sunday), exhibit taken offline
Visual Arts Alliance (VAA) is an educational organization for serious practitioners of the visual arts and interested members of the general public. VAA is an all volunteer-run, 501(c)3, non-profit organization.
VAA produces professionally juried art exhibitions providing opportunities for members and non-members to have their work professionally judged and viewed by the general public. VAA also organizes educational programs including studio, gallery and museum tours in addition to presentations of art-related resources. Recreational programs provide creative and supportive events beneficial to artists.
