Residency Contemporary Art Residency in Rural Argentina

Comunitaria Lincoln, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina

Comunitaria

Opportunity Description

International Deadline: August 23, 2024 – The call for the fifth edition of Comunitaria: Contemporary Art and Social Processes Residency is now open till August 23. Through this call, 11 artists will be selected and another 4 artists will be pre-selected to form a waiting list. The residency is aimed at artists interested in developing community-based art practices related to the local communities located in Lincoln, in the rural countryside of Argentina.

Situated in the Pampas region, northwest of the Province of Buenos Aires, the Lincoln district comprises 11 villages. Amid a plain landscape, marked by continuous horizontality in a 360º turn, Lincoln is located in the heart of the agro-industrial Pampas, a place where agro-export activities have gained scale, generating processes of urban transformation and affecting the economic structures, the environment, and the local culture. Moreover, as a result, the surrounding towns have faced intense demographic decline, as well as a significant impact on the environment and local living conditions.

During the residency period, artists will engage with the villages, using the territory itself as the starting point for the experience. The activities planned by the program will bring the artists closer to the social, cultural, and political dynamics of the region. In this way, it is encouraged that the research and works developed consider the specificities of the places and the environment where they will be developed, and that the research processes incorporate dynamics of exchange, listening, and contact with the local inhabitants.
