DESEA Foundation Spain

DESEA Foundation

Opportunity Description

International Deadline: September 28, 2026 – Nature and Humans is an international photography contest that invites reflection on the relationship between people and nature. Organized by the DESEA Foundation, the 2026 edition offers more than €17,000 in prizes, including €10,000 in cash and the rest in professional photographic equipment and travel vouchers.

The contest stands out as a unique platform where art, environmental awareness, and international exposure converge. Its main categories focus on conservation—with the most prominent awards—and also include themes such as Mammals, Birds, Oceans, and Other Animals. It features a renowned international jury.

This edition is supported and sponsored by top brands such as Sony, Wildwatching Spain, OM System, Fotografiarte, Pangea, and FONAMAD.

ELIGIBILITY
The contest is open to both professional and amateur photographers from around the world. The entry period will run from May 31 to September 28, 2026.

CATEGORIES
Fifteen categories to reflect upon the relationship between humans and nature.

JURY

  • Tito Garcia – With a long career spanning almost four decades and several experiences with other brands and distributors in the imaging industry, Tito has been with Olympus and OM SYSTEM for the last 20 years.
  • Javier Herranz – A nature and travel photographer who has explored the most remote places in nature and met many ethnic groups in their most natural state, which has allowed him to broaden his photographic horizons with a more open, sensitive, and tolerant perspective.
  • Alfonso Lario – Alfonso Lario Doylataguerra (Alicante, Spain, 1965). A photographer for over 40 years, he has focused on nature photography. His early passion for naturalism is complemented by his studies and work as an ornithologist and scientific bird ringer. He regularly collaborates on biodiversity monitoring activities.
  • Adriana Claudia Sanz has lived in Chubut, Patagonia, Argentina, since she was very young, where she developed a strong connection and bond with nature. Her master’s degree in environmental studies allows her to dedicate herself to its care, and it is there that she discovered photography.
  • Arturo de Frías has been photographing nature for 25 years, specializing in polar habitats and underwater photography. His images have been published in numerous media outlets worldwide, including National Geographic (international and Spanish editions), and have won awards in some of the most prestigious competitions (SONY World Photography Awards, Bird Photographer of the Year, MontPhoto, Memorial Maria Luisa, FotoFIO, International Photographer of the Year, Fine Art Photo Awards, etc.).
  • Luis Robles – Co-founder of WildWatching Spain. A biologist by training, passion, and devotion, he studied Biological Sciences in Barcelona. After completing his studies, he returned to the Cantabrian Mountains, the land of his origins.

AWARDS
As a new feature in the 2026 edition, the competition will also appoint TWO OVERALL WINNERS: one overall winner from the conservation categories and one overall winner from the thematic categories. Each of them will receive an additional cash prize of 500 euros, which will be added to the prize obtained in their corresponding category.

The total value of the prizes is around €17,000 (seventeen thousand euros), including €10,000 (ten thousand euros) in cash prizes. It is therefore one of the most generous competitions on the Spanish and international circuit.

ENTRY FEE
The participation fee is €25.
