RFP/Q's DFW Airport Art Program
Opportunity Description
International Deadline: January 13, 2025 – DFW Airport, the third-busiest in the world with over 81 million travelers in 2023, is launching the first of four open calls under its new public art vision, developed in collaboration with MASSIVart.
This initial phase offers two major opportunities open to artists internationally, to contribute to the newly redesigned Terminal C. As part of the Public Art Master Plan, DFW aims to celebrate the identity, culture, and diversity of the Dallas-Fort Worth region while inspiring travelers from around the globe with world-class artworks.
A1: SUSPENDED ARTWORK AT TERMINAL C SOUTH EXIT CANYON
Artwork Budget: Approximately $525,000 – $625,000
Artist or Artist Team Experience:
Successful submissions will likely be from artists mid-career and above. Meaning, the artist, or artist team, would have developed a consistent body of work and defining style, and has gained local, regional or national recognition. Artists may have a range of professional achievements (e.g., solo and group exhibitions, honors/awards, grants, etc.). While not strictly tied to years of experience, mid-career artists typically have 5–9 years of experience.
Artwork Objectives:
DFW Airport seeks to commission a suspended artwork above an escalator and elevator landing area used by arriving passengers exiting Terminal C through baggage claim on the level below. The artwork will be positioned between these two levels, suspended from the ceiling above the escalator. It will be visible from the check-in area for departures, the passenger walkway beyond security, as well as baggage claim and passenger pickup.
