U.S. National Deadline: June 8, 2023 – Texas State University System seeks to commission an artist or artist team to design artwork for the Texas State University Hilltop Residence Hall.
Project Description
The Hilltop Housing project at Texas State University consists of two six-story residence halls, housing a total of 836 beds. The two residence halls enclose a courtyard. The courtyard provides opportunities for outdoor activities and seating areas to assist in community building for the complex. The site is situated on top of the hill and has a strong visual and physical connection to the main campus and Bobcat Trail, a central campus thoroughfare. Limited parking is provided. The two-building complex has a total of 207,240 gross square feet.
Eligibility
- Age 18 or older
- Professional artist: A practitioner of visual and/or interdisciplinary arts, at any stage in their career, whose work is recognized by peer artists to demonstrate serious intent and ability, who has a body of work and has made art creation a focus of their practice.
- Lives or works in the United States

Artwork Goals
Artwork will draw inspiration from student life on campus or the larger San Marcos community.
Budget Description
$600,000 – Artwork budget is all-inclusive of artist fees, other consultants’ and subcontractors’ fees, insurance, engineering, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation (including any site modification), lighting, and post-installation documentation..
