Internet Geometry Unruled
Opportunity Description
U.S. National Deadline: October 16, 2026 – Geometry Unruled plays on the dual meaning of the word rule: both the straightedge used to draw geometric lines and systems of order and authority that enforce rules. Like the ruled lines of a page, geometric forms have long been employed by artists to establish visual coherence, structure, and balance along with a sense of purity and transcendence. Geometry often serves as a shorthand for rationality itself.
Rather than celebrating precision and rationality, Geometry Unruled seeks artworks that prioritizes subjectivity, imperfection, and the traces of their own making. It focuses on geometric practices that embrace ambiguity, instability, vulnerability, and disruption. Geometric structures may appear damaged, provisional, improvised, or contingent. They may reflect bodily experience, emotional states, memory, or social and political instability. Artists working in this vein have often turned geometry against itself, revealing its ability to express the unruly. Across generations, artists like Eva Hesse, Gego (Gertrud Goldschmidt), Mira Schendel, Julie Mehretu, and Sarah Sze have embodied this sensibility.
Geometry Unruled invites submissions that explore geometry as an open and unstable language, one capable of expressing uncertainty as powerfully as certainty, and complexity as compellingly as order. Through diverse media and methodologies, the exhibition seeks work that loosens geometry from its traditional associations, revealing instead its capacity for contingency, fragility, and imaginative freedom.

ELIGIBILITY
Artists based anywhere in the U.S. are encouraged to apply to this exhibition through an Open Call.
All forms of media will be considered as long as they have a material form (for example, purely digital media with no physical form, does not meet the Artsy requirement for exhibited works to be for sale). Accepted formats include painting, sculpture, prints, and other physical artworks.
CURATOR
Philip Swan is a painter who has been showing at Amos Eno Gallery since 2018. He has a BA and MSI from the University of Michigan and an MA from the College of William and Mary. He is originally from Michigan and has lived in New York since 1997. Swan explores the way viewers unconsciously interpret abstraction through free association, engaging with shapes, colors, lines and textures in ways that draw on memories and emotions inspired by, but in no way determined by, the memories and emotions of the artist who created the work.
VENUES
This exhibition will be presented on the Artsy.net profile of Amos Eno Gallery, a nonprofit artist co-op.
All of the artworks and artists chosen for the exhibit will also appear in a zine. A “zine” is a self-published, non-commercial booklet, typically created in small batches and photocopied or printed by hand. All artists in the exhibit will receive a complimentary digital copy of the zine. Printed zines will be available for purchase.

SALES
This exhibition will be presented on the Artsy.net profile of Amos Eno Gallery, a nonprofit artist co-op. Artsy requires that all exhibited works be listed for sale, and standard submission and platform commissions apply.
In the event of a sale, Amos Eno Gallery will receive a 20% commission and Artsy will receive a 19% commission, with the artist receiving 61% of the sale price. All transactions and sales will be conducted exclusively through Artsy.
