Opportunity Description

International Deadline: September 25, 2026 – Red tape, red flag, seeing red, painting the town red. What does it mean to represent the color red? Often, we associate the color red with intense emotion or a warning. Other times, we think of flowers, birds, or hearts.

The Lawrence Arts Center invites artists to submit artwork that relates to the subject/color “red.” The subject/color “red” is open to the artist’s interpretation.

On display October 30 thru December 12, 2026,

ELIGIBILITY
This call for entries encourages both established and emerging artists to submit. Submissions are open to any medium in the stated size parameters. Works must be no larger than 24 inches in any direction, including finished and/or framed works.  Works must be installation-ready. AI artwork is not permissible.

JUROR
Travis Millard is an American artist, musician, and founder of Fudge Factory Comics. His work spans over twenty years of self-published zines, gallery exhibitions, and notable commercial projects. Illustrations have appeared in Playboy, The Hollywood Reporter, Mad Magazine, Wired, and many more. Travis’ work has also been featured on record covers for Dinosaur Jr, Kurt Vile, Aesop Rock, The Get Up Kids, and others. Recently, Travis produced & art directed the indie video game “Freedom Finger” ~ a bat$#%! crazy space shooter ~ out now on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.

The Lawrence Arts Center offers contemporary exhibitions, performances, and visual and performing arts education. Three exhibition galleries, a 300-seat theater, a black box theater, two dance studios, an arts-based preschool, and seven visual arts studios serve individuals of all ages and backgrounds. The Arts Center is located in downtown Lawrence, Kansas, home to the University of Kansas and Haskell Indian Nations University, and less than an hour from downtown Kansas City.
