Opportunity Description

International Deadline: May 6, 2024 – The San Diego Watercolor Society announces its Call for Entries for the 44th International Exhibition to be held in San Diego September 29, 2024 – October 31, 2024. The exhibition is open to all water-based media artists.

For over four decades, the International Exhibition has been an annual highlight for SDWS. The event attracts entries from hundreds of water based media artists worldwide. The Exhibition features over $20,000 dollars in cash and awards with a $5000 first place cash prize. The International Show is the best selling shows of the year.

ELIGIBILITY
Open to artists 18 years and older. Entries must be original, created entirely by the artist, in water-based media (watercolor, acrylic, gouache, casein, or tempera) on paper, synthetic paper, paperboard, wrapped canvas, or cradled wood panel. No water soluble (miscible) oils are allowed. Source material and composition must be wholly original and not derived from any published images. Collage, using papers painted in water media by the artist, is acceptable. Non-water-based media may be integrated but cover no more than 20% of the artwork.

No digital art, AI generated, workshop/class art, art created under supervision, photography, prints, or reproductions will be accepted. Artwork submitted must have been completed after January 1, 2022, and not received an award in any national or international shows. Artwork exhibited in any previous SDWS International Exhibition is not eligible. Only one painting per artist may be juried into the exhibition.

The San Diego Watercolor Society was established in 1965 and is one of the largest and most active in the United States. JUROR
Ratindra Das is a Dolphin Fellow and a signature member of the American Watercolor Society. He holds a Distinguished Master status in the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, a Master Signature member in Watercolor West, a member of Watercolor USA Honor Society, signature member of National Watercolor Society and six other watercolor societies. AWARDS
$20,000 in cash and merchandise awards are anticipated ($5,000 First Place).

ENTRY FEE
Members: $45 first entry; $10 each additional entry. Non-Members: $55 first entry; $10 each additional entry.

All artwork must be for sale. SDWS will handle all sales and retain a 30% commission.

  • May 29 Acceptance Notifications (emails to all artists and results posted on our website)
  • June 17-19 Overseas paintings to be framed due to framer
  • July 8-12 Ready-to-Hang artwork (not to be hand-delivered) due to ArtWorks (shipper)
  • July 19-21 Hand-Delivered artwork deadline
  • Sept. 28 First Look and Artists’ Gala
  • Sept. 29 Artists’ Breakfast / EXHIBITION OPENS
  • October 4 First Friday Public reception
  • October 31 EXHIBITION CLOSES
