Compete A Smith Gallery Exhibition: Story
Opportunity Description
International Deadline: October 14, 2024 – Photographers of all levels are invited to submit work reflecting the theme “Story” to A Smith Gallery. Entries of 13 or more images are eligible for a complementary review by the gallery directors. Forty seven images will be selected for exhibition and shown in the online gallery from November 8 to December 19, 2024.
An exhibition catalogue with all the accepted images will be mailed to all accepted artists. 27 images from the total 47 images will be selected for “The 27”, a limited edition hardbound fine art book of the exhibition. Franklin Cincinnatus will be writing a tale for both the Juror and Director images in the book.
ELIGIBILITY
The competition is open to all photographers both professional and amateur working in all photographic mediums and styles. International entries are welcomed. Work that has been previously exhibited in an A Smith Gallery competition is not eligible. We prefer not to accept images created with Artificial Intelligence at the present time due to the lack of clarity concerning copyright issues and the ongoing litigation associated with them.
JURY
Kevin Tully will be the juror for “story”. Kevin is a photographer, designer, writer and artist. He has over forty years of experience as a landscape designer, furniture designer, fine art painter and photographer. Kevin’s alter-ego and nom de plume, Franklin Cincinnatus, is currently working on a collection of stories. Kevin will be writing a short tale to go with the Juror and Director Award images…. see more
ONLINE EXHIBITION AND CATALOGUE
Jurors will be selecting 47 images in total. All artist included in the 47 images will receive the following:
- Inclusion in the exhibition catalogue as well as the online exhibition gallery.
- A complimentary copy of the exhibition catalogue will be mailed to each photographer included in the catalogue. There is a postage fee of $15 for non US photographers eligible to receive the catalogue.
- The gallery will be featuring each of the 47 images on both Facebook and Instagram over the span of the exhibition.
- Gallery Directors will be hosting a GalleryTalk and will discuss all 47 images. The GalleryTalk will be posted in the blog section of the website.
- The gallery online store will include all 47 images listed for sale.
- The online exhibition as well as the GalleryTalk will be permanently archived after the end of the exhibition period.
“THE 27” HARDBOUND EXHIBITION BOOK | 27 images from the total 47 images will be selected for “The 27”, a hardbound fine art book of the exhibition. “The 27” will be available for purchase.
AWARDS
The awards are as follows:
- Jurors Award – a solo exhibition and “The 27” exhibition book
- Directors Award – “The 27” exhibition book
- Visitors Award (most Instagram likes) – $100
The solo exhibition awarded as the Juror’s Award will be scheduled at a mutually agreed time for the duration of a month.
ENTRY FEE
$40 for the first 5 images, $5 per each additional image. There is no limit to the number of images you may submit. Submission fees are not refundable.

SALES
The gallery has an online store and will include all images from the exhibition. The gallery will retain 30% of the sales price.
USE RIGHTS
Photographers retain full rights to their own images. The gallery will use the photographer’s images for publicity purposes.

About:
Established in May, 2010, A Smith Gallery is located in Johnson City, Texas in the Nugent Avenue Arts District. The gallery exhibits the work of both amateur and professional photographers through juried and invitational exhibitions. Amanda Smith and Kevin Tully are the Gallery Directors. Izzie and WeeGee are the gallery cats.
