A Smith Gallery Johnson City, Texas, United States

A Smith Gallery

Opportunity Description

International Deadline: July 22, 2024 – A Smith Gallery announces a call for photography for its upcoming online exhibition, ‘Portraits’. Forty-seven images will be selected for exhibition and shown in the online gallery from August 16 to September 26, 2024.

The competition is open to all photographers both professional and amateur working in all photographic mediums and styles. International entries are welcomed. Work that has been previously exhibited in an A Smith Gallery competition is not eligible. We prefer not to accept images created with Artificial Intelligence at the present time due to the lack of clarity concerning copyright issues and the ongoing litigation associated with them.

Donna Garcia will be the juror for “portraits”. Donna (She/Her/Hers) is a lens-based artist, curator, educator, podcaster and arts advocate. Best known for her conceptual self-portraiture and uncanny noir style, her work explores the performative potential of the medium of photography as well as the idea of how we exist within liminal space.

She is currently the Director of Education and Programs at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, MA. She is also a contributing editor for Lenscratch, co-host/co-founder of the Modern Art and Culture Podcast, she has taught workshops and been a portfolio reviewer nationally, and internationally.

Jurors will be selecting 47 images in total. All artist included in the 47 images will receive the following:

  1. Inclusion in the exhibition catalogue as well as the online exhibition gallery. A complimentary copy of the exhibition catalogue will be mailed to each photographer included in the catalogue. There is a postage fee of $15 for non US photographers eligible to receive the catalogue.
  2. The gallery will be featuring each of the 47 images on both Facebook and Instagram over the span of the exhibition.

  4. The gallery online store will include all 47 images listed for sale.
  5. The online exhibition as well as the GalleryTalk will be permanently archived after the end of the exhibition period.

“THE 27” HARDBOUND EXHIBITION BOOK | 27 images from the total 55 images will be selected for “The 27”, a hardbound fine art book of the exhibition. “The 27” will be available for purchase.
