Opportunity Description
U.S. National Deadline: Ongoing – The Arts and Culture Commission of the City of Glendale is requesting proposals from creative artists to temporarily display a unique installation in the Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station (ASMPGS). The City’s Community Services & Parks Department (CSP) owns the ASMPGS, a historic 1936 Streamline Modern Gas Station building listed on the Glendale Register of Historic Resources.
Art is displayed on a rotational basis in the ASMPGS.
This Call For Submissions is for art installations at the Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station.
The Gas Station is located at the Adams Square Mini Park, 1020 East Palmer Avenue, Glendale CA 91205. The Gas Station is 12’x12’x12′ cube, with acrylic windows. There are two doors, two electrical outlets and a timer. Items can be hung from the ceiling.
BUDGET
Artists whose work is chosen for installation at the ASMPGS will receive a stipend of $1,000 in addition to a production budget of up to $1,500 for a total maximum stipend of $2,500.
ELIGIBILITY
Artists or art organizations, or schools can submit proposals to temporarily display art in the ASMPGS. Local and regional artists are invited to apply. Some preference may be given to local artists if all other factors are equal.
ACCEPTABLE MEDIA
Visual and installation art of any media and size will be considered for display, including but not limited to: paintings, photography, sculptures, crafts, graphic arts, animation, mixed media, mosaics, stained glass and other forms of artistic expression for civic, cultural, educational, recreational and intellectual purposes.
INELIGIBLE ARTWORK
Artwork is ineligible for display, for any one or more of the following reasons, if the artwork contains:
- A copyrighted or trademarked image or logo;
- A brand or business name;
- Is plagiarized, stolen, or copied from another source;
- Defames or invades the rights of any person, living or dead;
- Is likely to: incite or produce an imminent lawless act
- disrupt the orderly operation of the facility exhibiting the art;
- Is integral to criminal conduct or is in violation of the law; or May reasonably be construed as:
- False, fraudulent, or defamatory;
- Obscene matter, as defined in California Penal Code Section 311 or any successor legislation;
- Harmful matter for minors, as defined in California Penal Code Section 313 or any successor legislation; or
- Child pornography, as defined in California Penal Code Section 311.1(a) or 311.2(b), or any successor legislation.
