Art Calls Art Scene West International Exhibition: The Surreal Spectacle
Opportunity Description
International Deadline: March 19, 2025 – Art Scene West seeks to lure those who delve into the weird and unknown crevices of their boundless imagination to bring forth a viewing spectacle that is oddly attractive. Those unafraid to portray the bizarre, counterculture truths hiding in the shadows of plain sight are encouraged to submit.
We welcome all mediums of 2D and 3D art that are meant to challenge the viewer’s mind and cause a stir of wonder and intrigue to the precipice of delirium.
This call will showcase unusual sights from bright artists who are unashamed of their discontentment of the status quo. Conformity is not welcomed, for we wish to celebrate the timeless absurdity of Surrealism from contemporary artists, worldwide. Welcome to The Surreal Spectacle.
Our gallery is located in Seaport Village of downtown San Diego, a beautiful attraction where tourists and locals gather to enjoy the seaside businesses, luxury restaurants, and beautiful Southern California weather.
The in-gallery exhibition will be live from April 1st – May 27th, 2025.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
All works of art must be an original creation of the participating artist and must be available for sale. Open to all 2D, hanging artwork that does not exceed 30” on its longest side, or an additional fee will be required to participate if invited to participate. Sculptures must not be larger than 16” high x 8” wide x 8” deep, and must not exceed 35 lbs in weight.
FEES
There is a $25 submission fee to thoroughly review the artist’s work and biography. For artists who are selected into the exhibition, the participation fee is $75. This helps cover the costs of promoting the exhibition, handling and curating the artwork inside the gallery, and uploading the artists’ content onto our website and social media channels. Artists are responsible for shipping and return-shipping fees to and from the gallery.

Maximum 4 images of the artwork(s). Selected artists will be notified between March 20th – 23rd.
SALES
All artwork submitted and selected shall be offered for sale throughout the exhibition, both at our gallery at 803 W Harbor drive, suite E1-E, San Diego CA 92101, and online.
Artist grants Art Scene West a 40% sales commission on the artist’s artwork(s) selected for entry in the show and sold at any time during the show.
TIMELINE
- Submission deadline: March 19th, 2025
- Selected artists will be notified between March 20th – 23rd.
- Last Day for Artists to pay the participation fee is March 24th.
- Artwork should be delivered to Art Scene West by April 4th.
- The opening reception at the gallery is on Saturday, April 5th, 2025.
- Unsold artwork can be retrieved or will be sent back beginning May 28th.

Now under new ownership, Art Scene West first launched in February 2020 as a contemporary art gallery on South Cedros St in Solana Beach Ca, which it held until the end of 2022. It now operates from a gallery space in Seaport Village, downtown San Diego, which opened July 4th, 2024. Art Scene West continues focusing on discovering talented artists through world-wide art calls and exhibiting them in their physical and online gallery spaces. Since opening in Seaport Village, Art Scene West has evolved to offer not only high-quality fine art, but affordable gifts and regular guided-painting activities for all to enjoy.
