RFP/Q's Storm Drain Murals Project

City of Burlingame San Francisco, California, United States

City of Burlingame

Opportunity Description

U.S. Regional Deadline: April 30, 2022 – Storm drains are the entryway to local creeks and the San Francisco Bay. Every time it rains, pollutants (such as litter, pet waste, sediment, pesticides, motor oil, and other urban chemicals) flow into storm drains which connect directly to waterways.

The City of Burlingame is launching a new Storm Drain Murals Pilot Project and is seeking digital artwork for storm drain murals. Since storm drains often go unnoticed, the murals provide a unique learning opportunity to educate the public about the importance of preventing litter, pet waste, and other waste water from entering these drains.

When designing artwork, artists are encouraged to consider the following themes (exact phrases do not need to appear in the mural):

  • Water Quality: Clean Water Starts with You
  • Stormwater Pollution Prevention: Only Rain Down the Drain
  • San Francisco Bay and Estuary: Keep It Clean We’re All Downstream

Why Participate & Awards
The winning designs will have their artwork printed on a 3’ x 2’ mural. These murals will be on display in the commercial areas of Burlingame with high pedestrian activity. Artists will be announced on the city’s website at www.burlingame.org/murals. Each eligible entry will be automatically entered in a drawing to win a free goody bag of sustainable products, including a Golden Poppy Annual Park Pass, Swedish dishcloth, reusable tote bag, stainless steel bottle, metal straw, bamboo utensils, and more.
