Competitions Half-Truths: An International Call for Works
International Deadline: November 21, 2016 – In its 13th Season, Manifest’ presents an international open call to all artists creating visual works exploring the concept of half-truth; distortions, alterations, falseness, double-meaning, lies, misinterpretation etc.
What happens when truthful information is altered by the omission of part of the message? What happens for example when a comma is removed from a sentence, or an implication inserted, and therefore the interpretation of an entire otherwise truthful statement is changed? A half-truth is the result, often intended to make what is only a belief appear to be knowledge. Half-truths mislead through the use of truth as a decoy within which rides an intended deception.
For this exhibit Manifest is very interested in how works of visual art explore the concept of half-truth. Works submitted may be of any kind and any size, fulfilling the general theme in any way and through various strategies. All media and genre of visual art are eligible.
This theme is very open to interpretation and to any and all visual arts media.
Half-Truth’ is open to everyone. The only limitation is that entries must represent original works which address the theme in some considerable way. Open to all media and all genre (abstract, narrative, realism, conceptual, etc.)
Open to any and all traditional and non-traditional visual arts 2d and 3d media applicable to the theme.
JURY & CURATOR
Manifest’s selection process involves a complex two-part system. This exhibit will be juried by an anonymous multi-member panel of volunteer professional and academic advisors with a broad range of expertise relative to art and design. The jury will then pass along their recommendations to the exhibit curator who will make the final selections from the jury-approved pool.
Manifest Press will produce a high quality hard-cover publication documenting each entire season of exhibits, artists, and works shown. This continues Manifest’s commitment to long-term documentation and dissemination of our projects, and the expansion of physical exhibits into a broader geography and time frame, while also bringing all exhibits together under one cover each year to create a better product which will be more valuable to the public, teachers, libraries, and exhibiting artists.
$36 for up to three entries submitted. $10 per each additional entry.
