Opportunity Description

International Deadline: July 31, 2024 – The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) invites established and emerging illustrators from around the globe to share their interpretation of “What does an AIDS-free generation mean to you?”

With a special People-Centered Care category sponsored by Gilead. This category focuses on illustrations that depict the importance of people-centered care in achieving an AIDS-free generation. With a panel of internationally renowned judges, the competition offers an opportunity to inspire artists to showcase their talents by illustrating their unique vision.

ELIGIBILITY
Open to all illustrators (established and emerging) in all countries who are at least 18 years of age as of the submission date are eligible.

Open to all concepts defined as “What does an AIDS-free generation mean to you?”, as the entrant interprets. An illustration must not have been previously published to be eligible for the established, emerging, and people-centered care categories. Illustrations that violate or infringe upon another person’s rights, including but not limited to copyright, are ineligible. Each submitted design, in its entirety, must be a single work of original material created by the competition entrant.

Categories:

  • An “Emerging Artist” is an illustrator at the beginning of their journey, gaining initial exposure and recognition. This category is for artists starting to make their mark and looking for opportunities to expand their visibility.
  • An “Established Artist” is recognized for contributing to the art world with a notable portfolio of work. This category honors artists with a significant presence and influence in the community.

JURY

  • Gail Anderson is Chair of BFA Design and BFA Advertising at the School of Visual Arts and Creative Director at Visual Arts Press.
  • Illustrator Nigel Buchanan’s work is all about whimsical concepts and people… lots of people. His powerful and distinct portraits have appeared in dozens of international editorials and covers, including Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, Don Cheadle, Beck for Billboard Magazine, and Kim Jong Un for Newsweek. He crossed off a bucket list item when asked to create a cover for TIME Magazine featuring Indian Prime Minister Modi.
  • David Duong, MD, MPH, is the Director of the Harvard Medical School Program in Global Primary Care and Social Change.
  • Tema Mkhonta, born in the Kingdom of Eswatini, is a passionate advocate and accomplished nurse with a profound dedication to public health. Diagnosed with HIV at 15, Tema transformed her personal challenges into a driving force for change, joining the Committee of African Youth Advisors and becoming a prominent voice in the fight against HIV.
  • Sindiso Nyoni is a Bulawayo (Zimbabwe) born, self developed Graphic artist who has been described as a contemporary illustrator, activist, street-artist, and multi-disciplinary graphic designer.

  • Established Artist – Grand $1200 ; 2nd $600; 3rd $300
  • People-Centered Care – Grand $700 ; 2nd $300; 3rd $175

ENTRY FEE
A standard non-refundable entry fee of $15 applies to entries of up to three illustrations.
