Art Calls Hartnell College Art Gallery Call for Solo/Group Exhibitions
Opportunity Description
International Deadline: September 1, 2025 – The Hartnell College Art Gallery is now accepting proposals for a featured exhibition during the Fall 2025 semester. The selected exhibition will run for approximately 6 weeks, from October 20 through November 28, and include a public reception and optional artist talk.
ELIGIBILITY
All artists are encouraged to apply, including international artists. Artists not selected for this exhibition will be considered for future opportunities in the 2026–2027 academic year. We especially welcome submissions from artists based in Salinas and the greater Monterey County, and/or those whose work explores themes connected to the Salinas Valley—its identity, people, history, or landscape.
We welcome proposals in all media, including: Photography, Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Ceramics, Installation, Video, New Genres, Interdisciplinary Work. Proposals may be for: Solo exhibitions; Group shows; Curated exhibitions.
BENEFITS
We offer the following support for selected exhibitions:
- Artist stipend: $2,000–$4,000 (depending on budget)
- Shipping stipend: up to $1,000
- Professional marketing: postcards, posters, social media, signage
- Exhibition design support: lighting, labels, layout
- Catered opening reception (covered by the gallery)
- The gallery cannot provide insurance for the work in transit

No entry fee required.
SUBMISSIONS
All submissions must be sent via email (max 10MB, ZIP file preferred). Please include the following materials:
- 10–20 digital images (JPEG, max 1MB each) (Optional) One installation view OR link to time-based media
- 1-page proposal statement (overview of your concept and format)
- 1-page artist statement (per participating artist, if group show)
- Image list (title, medium, dimensions, year)
- Resume or CV (per artist)
- Contact info: email, phone, and website or social links
- File naming: LastName_FirstName_Title.jpg

- What is the core theme or concept of your exhibition?
- Is this a solo, group, or curated show?
- What mediums, formats, and materials will you include?
- How many works will be included? What sizes and types?

- Why is this region or gallery the right context for your work?
- Are there any special technical or installation needs?
- How do you envision using the gallery space?

The Hartnell College Gallery presents a wide range of exhibitions of art from contemporary, historical and culturally diverse sources. The goal of the Exhibitions Program is to bring works that will inform and enrich student learning within the Hartnell Art Department disciplines, as well as the broader community served by Hartnell College.
